Plot: Struggling to find work-life balance? Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed and frustrated or just want to increase your happiness, you can learn how in just 10 minutes a day!

For some of us, feeling busy or stressed has become the new normal. Others feel okay, but just want a boost to productivity, energy and motivation.

Instead of hoping for happiness, what if happiness is something you DO, something you CHOOSE every day? The good news: it is and the solutions are simple.

Psychologist and happiness expert Ingrid Kelada provides a practical, step-by-step guide to help you increase your personal happiness and feel more motivated. You can learn how with simple 10-minute strategies. Each day of the 21-day journey focuses on one key area of your life, including:

Time: how to break the cycle of chaos and manage your time effectively.

Body Language: exploring the surprising links between body language and happiness.

Relationships: how to make the most of the number one predictor of happiness.

Work: how to use your strengths and talents so that you are engaged and motivated.

Money: what you should spend your money on to feel most satisfied.

The book is interactive. Each chapter features resources like apps to try, videos to watch for deeper understanding, or tools to help you master these new habits. At the end of three weeks, along with increased happiness, you’ll find you’ve become more:

• productive

• focused

• patient

• energetic

• healthy

• motivated

• positive

Happiness is a choice. A daily decision to choose happy can be easy, fun and rewarding. With this book, in just a few minutes per day, you can practice one new happiness habit, add resources to your arsenal, and jot down your notes in the journal section.

Thoughts: With our over whelming life, we often tend to feel frustrated, angry and stressed. These feelings lead to a lack of happiness in our daily lives. What if we choose ‘Happy’ as a lifestyle? What if we make it something that we actively ‘Do’? 21 Days of Happiness is one such book which guides you step by step, undertaking each activity a day to improve your happiness quotient. At the start of the book the author recommends to read one chapter a day and implement it on daily basis. At the end of each chapter there are 5 questions to analysis how a particular activity worked for you and made you feel. There are 21 happiness tips to undertake for 21 days in a row, till the time that happiness becomes a habit.

The book is well divided in chapters further divided into sections. I prefer reading non-fiction books with subdivision since it makes it easy for the reader to process information easily and understand the information in the best possible way.

The author has often referenced a lot of tips, techniques and examples from the best selling non-fiction books while explaining her concepts. Hence, this book becomes a plethora of all the best tips mentioned in these bestselling books.  Anyone who is a non reader or someone like me who is not into reading much non-fiction can just read this book and reap the benefits of reading all the non-fiction books mentioned in this book.

Apart from the ease of reading and well divided chapter, I also liked the way the author has given her own examples of undertaking these techniques. It makes it easy for the readers to relate to. I read one chapter each day for 21 days and it made a huge difference in my lifestyle. The book give practical tips and suggestions which don’t require a major reform in the way one lives but has a huge impact.

I haven’t been able to inculcate everything the book has to offer but I have made a start and it is already showing results. I would recommend this book to everybody who realizes the need of choosing happiness as a habit.

Some Rumi Love!!!

I have been a hardcore Rumi fan ever since the time I read ‘Forty Rules of Love’ by Elif Shafak a few years back. His words fill me with unexpected emotions and unattened thoughts.. It transcends me beyond time.

Leaving you with his wisdom.

Book Review: The Secret to Hummingbird Cake

 TSHBC

Title: The Secret to Hummingbird Cake

Author: Celeste Fletcher McHale

Publication: Thomas Nelson

Length: 304 pages

Plot- When all else fails, turn to the divine taste of hummingbird cake.
In the South you always say “yes, ma’am” and “no, ma’am.” You know everybody’s business. Football is a lifestyle not a pastime. Food—especially dessert— is almost a religious experience. And you protect your friends as fiercely as you protect your family— even if the threat is something you cannot see. In this spot-on Southern novel brimming with wit and authenticity, you’ll laugh alongside lifelong friends, navigate the sometimes rocky path of marriage, and roll through the outrageous curveballs that life sometimes throws . . . from devastating pain to absolute joy. And if you’re lucky, you just may discover the secret to hummingbird cake along the way.

Favorite Quote: ‘It’s not how long you live; it’s what you leave behind’

The book is about three childhood friends who are devoted to their friendship. The key characters in the book are Carriagan, Ella Rae and Lanie. The narration is from Carriagan’s point of view. Each of them has a very peculiar character. Carrigan is a fierce, bold house wife who married the love for her life, Jack, at the age seventeen until one day she finds out that her marriage is in a great turmoil. Ella Rae, is a easy going woman, happily married to Tommy. She is capable of punching anyone who bothers her loved ones. Lanie is a goody two shoes, always helping out people, an angel in disguise who makes the best humming bird cake in the whole wide world. These three women are joined by the hip since childhood.

At the beginning it feels as if the book is about girl pals doing girly things like gossiping, discussing their married lives, sharing their insecurities, etc until one day their lives change. They realize that nothing will ever be the same again. Every character in the book is well molded. The trio is amazing and makes you longing for such friends in your life. They stand by each other to thick and thin, right and wrong, life and death… any maybe beyond.

The story is devastating and assuring at once. It teaches us that everything does not need an explanation. We just have to make terms with it to lead a peaceful life. This book made me laugh, this book made me cry. The book surely churned a lot of emotions in me. This is definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time.

Happy Diwali!!!

Hey Guys, wish you all a very happy and a prosperous Diwali! Diwali is the festival of lights and joy. For most people, this time of the year is like a mini vacation which we celebrate with our family. Here are some highlights of my Diwali! I wuld love to know how was your Diwali!

Getting your Act Together

Recently I have been thinking of how my life has transformed from being a happy go lucky college student with no major responsibilities to being a working professional & having hell lot of ownership & responsibility to be attended to. In the beginning it felt like things were all across the place. You barely find sometime for yourself. People start expecting things from you and you start trying to push yourself trying to live up to their expectations but you only begin to realize that it is a never ending cycle, one backed by another it just keeps on coming on to you. It just would’t end. Arrrgh!!!

I simply could not balance my life. I missed on a lot of social events just cause I was caught up at work. I just couldn’t sync in the fact that I was no more in college and I have to manage both my personal and professional life together. Here was when I realised I had grown up. No amount of tantrums or nagging is going to help me do any better. The only way I found out of this was to learn to accept the fact that my life had transformed and resistance would only cause me pain. I simply needed to change my lifestyle.

Here I stand today, 6 months of being an adult (literal terms) happy & content with my life! *touchwood* I have found my balance and am enjoying both work and life.

What I have learned in these few months is to firstly to accept the situation however bad it is. Give time and everything will be all right. Also, I learned not be overburdened by others opinion of things, living for yourself the way you want will leave you with no regrets in future. Surely, you are going to make mistake fail, loose, tumble but the sweet sweet pleasure to have attempted, will give you much more satisfaction & pride.

This is how I have got my act together! 🙂
